I’m a soccer mom, and I never thought in a million years I would say that with such a joy. I wasn’t raised in a sport environment but when my daughter was 3 years old, my goal was to get her to socialize with as many kids as possible Besides dance, soccer was the only other activity with other kids that was available for 3 year old. Every year since then, we have done soccer, and every kid has picked it up since then.
My two oldest kids, Truly and Adam, play competetive soccer and they love it. A big deal though in being a part of a team and keeping up with their skills training, is taking time to practice and train outside of their regular team practice.
With 4 kids and a super busy schedule, it’s tough to find time to make sure we are getting in that extra practice. One tool I found on Instagram is the Soccer Sidekick. I checked it out and at first glance I thought to myself “Okay, a ball on a string. That’s nothing new, but I guess it could work.” As I looked into it more, I found out the awesome way it works.
The Soccer Sidekick allows players to realistically practice passing and receiving with every part of their body by themselves. By adjusting the setting of the cord the ball comes back to a different part of your body…and it actually feels like a real pass.
On the green setting the ball zips back to your feet, on orange it returns to your knees, on yellow to your chest, and on blue it pops up for a header. You simply hold the cord by the handle with your arm in front of you and pass the ball on the ground like a normal pass to a teammate. You can create game-like situations by yourself and get unlimited repetitions anytime, anywhere.
Even goalies can train independently by putting the handle around their wrist, shooting the ball, and making reaction dives and catches as the ball zooms back.
The ball spins freely on the cord so it doesn’t tangle. It’s an extremely effective training tool and is also very fun to use. Thousands of players of all ages around the country are improving their game everyday with the Soccer Sidekick.
This seemed like such an awesome tool, and perfect for squeezing time in to get some extra practice. While I am getting dinner ready, the kids can be outside and practice passing and receiving in a small space without needing a huge field.
The bungee cords were very easy to manipulate and Truly quickly changed the color of the cords to keep on practicing.
They thought it was so much fun and loved how easy it was to use and how hard the passes came back, just like in a real game!
My soccer players gave the Soccer Sidekick two thumbs up and have been taking them everywhere they go, from school to just hanging out at grandmas house. I love it because it motivates them to practice more, makes it fun, and keeps it simple.
